Uploading Media

*Media is the images, audio, videos and documents** uploaded to a WordPress website. These might be embedded in a post or page, or might be downloadable to the client.

WordPress features a Media Library where media files can be uploaded and browsed

Uploading Media

The simplest way to upload media is through a post or page.

  1. Add or Edit a Page or Post
  2. Ensure that the Visual Editor is being used.
  3. Click the Upload Media icon, and select Add media files from your computer.
  4. Locate the file on the computer.

This will embed the media in the web page.

If there are multiple files which require uploading, or there are issues uploading, media files can be uploaded manually.

  1. Connect using FTP or SFTP to the web files.
  2. Navigate to wp-content, then uploads. The structure here is often in subfolders with the year and month. This is simply cosmetic so file scan be uploaded in any subdirectory here.
  3. Upload the files.
  4. These will now be available in the Media Library.
